Video listening: immigration. Young children talking. From the Les Enfants du XXIe siècle series on Youtube. Very good! It's interesting to see this mix of wisdom and half formed, picked up ideas. I've done a gap fill for this with teacher's answers. You could use it with adults and excellent Y11 classes (upper intermediate).

, Y12-13 (Advanced)

Video listening for advanced (A2) level. Economic growth explained. From the 1jour1question series. Students must translate sentences from English to French based on what they hear. Direct transcription is advised. Useful knowledge for students who know little about economics.

, Y10-11 (Intermediate)

Easy intermediate video listening. Another one from the Les enfants du 21e siècle series (La Maternelle Officiel/Youtube). This one is on books and reading. A bright Y8/9 class could do this, but it may suit average ability Y10-11 better. Gapfill and simple sentences to write based on the gapfill.

Video listening, intermediate level. Smartphones. This is from the Les Enfants du 21e siècle series on Youtube. The children talking are quite funny. The worksheet has notes to complete in French with a little oral/written follow-up.

, Y12-13 (Advanced)

Video listening. Who decides which clothes are fashionable? This worksheet, suitable for AS level in England and Wales (low advanced) links to a video from the Milanpresse/Vimeo collection of 1jour1question videos. It is short, clear, informative and quite fast. The sheets has true/false/not mentioned and some simple pre-listening oral questions to get the class thinking. I have placed the sheet in both the A-level and adult student sections. I recommend these videos for advanced listening.

, Y9 (Low intermediate)

Easy text and exercises to practise the imperfect tense. "Memories of childhood" text, questions in French, writing task and gapfill. A chance to introduce or revise the imperfect tense in its "used to" sense. Old school! Could suit Y9 to Y11.

, Y10-11 (Intermediate)

Video listening for intermediate level. Quand j'étais petit.... A short cartoon in which students hear lots of jobs mentioned. Tick off exercise and a little translation. Imperfect tense is also prominent. Good for Y9-11, depending on ability.

, Y12-13 (Advanced)

Video listening. This is a brilliant short film (2m 43s) called Passé composé by Ted Hardy-Carnac. It's not about grammar. An elderly man in a retirement home fantasises about his past. The worksheet has questions in French, a "find the French" task and room for some discussion and analysis. I really recommend this for a one-off lesson (about 45 minutes) or as part of a sequence about old age. Check you can access Vimeo. I have placed this in both the A-level and Adults students pages. I would use it at A2 level.
